The Receiving and Making Calls in zoom App
Zoom Phone can be used to make and receive calls if you have Zoom enabled on your account. Learn how to make and receive calls by reading this article.

Note: Your in-call status will be synchronized with your desk phone when you are in a Zoom Phone call.
Prerequisites for making and receiving calls
- The user’s zoom mobile app needs to be at least Android iOS 5.8.0 or above.
- Should have the room phone license.
- For the zoom desktop client, there should be at least Mac OS, Windows, or Linux 5.8.0 version or above.
- In calling for an international number, ensure the zoom phone permits outbound dialing for the number.
How to make and receive calls on desktop

Making the call.
Remember, At the time of making a call on the phone number displayed in another application (for instance, outlook or web browser ) you can use click to dial or highlight to call.
Step 1. In the Zoom desktop client, you have to sign in.
Step 2. Then tap on the phone.
Step 3. By following any one of the methods, you can call:
- Copy and Paste. For this, you can copy and paste a text field’s number, after which you have to tap on the call icon.
- Number Pad. You have to dial the phone number by using the keyboard number pad or dial pad and then tap on the phone icon. When you dial a vanity phone or a number containing characters, the zoom phone by default translates those letters to numbers while making calls.
- Starred contacts. Tap on the starred section available above the number pad for viewing your starred contacts. Then, run through the contact and tap the phone icon to zoom call them.
- Search contacts. Enter a number or name above the dial pad for searching through external, internal, and synced contacts. Tap a search result for making the call. When the contact has various phone numbers, tap the right arrow icon for selecting or viewing the number to call.
Step 4. Tap the caller ID dropdown menu for altering the outbound caller id number. During a zoom call, your incall status will be synced to the assigned desk phones.
Step 5. Then use the in-call controls.
Calling the synced contact.
When you set up contacts sync, you can then zoom call the contacts for adding it to your office 365, exchange, or Google account.
Remember, calling the synced contacts is solely available for the zoom desktop app. It is not available for mobile applications or provisional desk phones.
Searching for a contact.
You can make calls to synced contacts by inputting their number or name in the search box at the top of the dial pad.
Step 1. In the Zoom desktop client, you have to sign in.
Step 2. Then tap on the phone.
Step 3. Input the number of names at the top of the dial pad.
Remember, when the zoom contacts have various phone numbers, then tap on the right arrow icon for selecting or viewing the numbers to call.
Step 4. Tap on the caller id’s drop-down menu for altering the outbound caller id number.
Step 5. Tap the phone icon.
Step 6. Then, use the in-call controls.
Using the contacts directory.
Step 1. In the Zoom desktop client, you have to sign in.
Step 2. Tap on contacts.
Step 3. Select my group’s tab from where you have to choose cloud contacts and then tap on a contact to call.
Step 4. Tap on call. On the contrary, you run through their name in the directory and then tap the call icon.
Remember,
- Ensure that the synced contact consists of a phone number attached. When you don’t have the phone number, it still will get displayed in cloud contacts. However, you can’t be able to call them.
- When your contacts consist of multiple numbers, you can view those numbers and the settled label in office 365, Google, or Exchange. Tap a phone number to call it. By tapping the call you can make the call to the first phone number.
Step 5. Then, use the in-call controls.
Receiving the call.
Step 1. In the Zoom desktop client, you have to sign in.
Step 2. At the time of the incoming call, the zoom phone by default will send you the call notification. It assists you in caller identification.
Remember, you won’t receive the call notifications when you manually set the zoom status or do not disturb.
Step 3. You can tap on any of the below options on the call notification-
- Dismiss. When the call was routed through the call notification, then you have to skip the call notification. Soon, try to remove your name from the present call queue distribution. This call queue attempts to reach out to other call queue members.
- Accept the calls. You have to answer the calls.
- Decline. The caller route will disconnect the call or voicemail based on the zoom settings. Check the dropdown menu named as when not answered, calls will be.
- The close icon. It simply helps in ignoring the call notification. Then the call will continue to ring for other devices. Based on zoom desk phone or mobile app.
Step 4. At the time you are in a call, then you will find the below options at the call notifications.
- Send to voicemail. You can send the incoming calls to the voicemail or can continue the present call.
- End and accept. You can answer the incoming call / the current call.
- Hold and Accept. Keep the call on hold and then try to answer the incoming call. The call controls will also switch between the calls. Or it can merge them for a three-way call.

Make a call
Remember, When you try to make an emergency call then Zoom will direct you to the phone carrier in place of the zoom app.
Step 1. In the zoom mobile app, sign in.
Step 2. Then tap on the phone.
Step 3. Click on the number pad icon.
Step 4. By following any of the methods, you can make a call.
Remember, you can view your phone contacts in a zoom phone. When you try to call people via your phone contact application.

Step 5. When you have the main company number or the direct number, tap on the caller ID drop-down menu for altering the caller id outbound. You can also think of hiding the caller id.
Remember,
- The text which gets displayed is not the caller id name which can be viewed by the receiving party.
- During a call, your call-in status will get synced to the desk phones assigned to you.
- You can’t view the caller id drop-down menu when they don’t have the direct phone numbers. It is also viable when the organization only has a single company number.
Step 6. Click on the phone icon for making the call.

Calling the phone contact.
When you view your phone contacts in the zoom app, then you can call them via zoom phone.
Step 1. In the zoom mobile app, sign in.
Step 2. Click on contacts.
Step 3. Click on contacts followed by phone contacts matching.
Step 4. Click on the contact’s name from where select the phone call to call the contact using zoom phone.
Step 5. Then, use the in-call controls.
Receiving a call.
Step 1. In the Zoom mobile application, you have to sign in.
Step 2. At the time of the incoming call, the zoom phone by default will send you the call notification. It assists you in caller identification.

Step 3. Based on the call notification you have on the phone screen either tap on accept decline or dismiss. Or for ignoring the call, you can simply tap on the close icon.
