What is ANI/CLI Authentication?
ANI (automatic number identification), or simply CLI (caller line identification) is a way of identifying the caller.
The way it works is as follows:
-
Your Cisco Webex site preferences keep track of the number you use to dial into meetings, as well as the time you call into meetings.
-
It is your responsibility to call into the meeting’s audio portion.
-
Upon completing your call, Webex will verify the number from which you called against the number that has been added to your preferences on the Webex site.
-
There is no need for you to enter a meeting number in order to be directed to the correct meeting.
ANI/CLI can be used on your site if you have a host account and your site is configured for it. However, you should be able to:
-
ANI/CLI teleconferencing authentication is available when scheduling a meeting via dial-in.
-
As part of ANI/CLI enabled audio conferences, you can specify a phone number that will be used to authenticate your call when you dial in. In either case, you will only be able to log in if you have been invited via email at the time of scheduling your meeting.
-
To guarantee that ‘spoofers’ will not be able to access your number, provide an audio PIN.
Schedule a Meeting with ANI/CLI Authentication
- You can access your Webex site by logging in.
- The first step is to go to Host a Meeting > Scheduling a Meeting. Upon clicking the Schedule a Meeting button, a new page will appear.
- Choose the option to change the audio conference. There will be a dialog box appearing on the right side of the screen.
- If you have not already selected it, click Enable audio conference CLI authentication when participants join the conference, if it has not already been done.
- It is normally recommended that you schedule your meeting in the usual way.

- As soon as you launch the program, you will see a section called Set up in the Audio section, or if you already have set up audio options, you can expand it.
- Check the Call-in authentication box underneath My Phone Numbers, next to the phone number that you wish to authorize.
- Click on the Save button.
Specify Authentication PIN for Host Account
