A tag helps you reach a large number of people at once at the same time.

By categorizing people according to their attributes, you can organize them according to types of attributes like their job, project, skill level, training, or location by categorizing them in accordance with their attributes. A number of ways exist in Teams that enable you to identify groups of people without having to type their names individually, including posting tags such as “Nurse”, “Manager”, or “Designer”, in order to identify these groups of people.

It is just a matter of @mentioning a tag in a channel once it has been added. Everyone who is assigned that tag will receive an email notification, just as they would receive an email notification for an individual mention if they were assigned that tag, as soon as the tag is assigned.

It is also possible to use tags by starting a new chat and then selecting the tag that is associated with the people that you wish to contact, by doing so, start a new chat and select the tag that is associated with them.

Create and manage tags in Teams

There is a section called Teams on the left side of the app where you can find a list of all the teams that you are involved with. Choose More options from the drop-down menu, and then select Manage tags from the list.

The tags that you create here can be assigned to people in your team so that they are more easily recognized.

@mention a tag in a channel

Tags in channel conversations are best used by @mentioning them in your message, following which you can choose them from a dropdown menu at the top of the channel. It will appear just as any @mentioned tweet, and the people who belong to that tag are going to receive a notification as a result.

Using tags in a chat

Choosing New chat will allow you to start a conversation with other members of a particular tag as soon as you type the name of the tag into the chat box. Once the tag’s name has been typed, you will be given the option to select it from a drop-down list that appears once the tag name has been typed. As a result, the To: field will be filled in with the names of everyone in the tag group.

Manage settings for team owners

In order to decide which members of their team can add tags, team owners can choose which team members are allowed to do so. The team list can be found by selecting the Teams tab on the left side of the app.

By pressing the More options menu, you will have the option of selecting Manage team, selecting the Settings tab, and then browsing to the Tag section by clicking the More options menu. If you want to control who can manage tags on your team, here is where you can do it.

There is no need to enter every name in Teams individually if you want to find groups of people, such as “Nurse”, “Manager”, or “Designer”, instead, you can use this tool to find groups without having to enter each name individually.

If you go to the bottom of the app, and then tap on Teams, you will notice that your team is listed among the teams listed there. After selecting More options, you will find a menu with a number of options including Manage tags.

It is just a matter of @mentioning a tag in a channel once it has been added. It will be a notification that will be sent to everyone who was assigned that tag, just as if they had been individually @mentioned.

You can also use tags in a chat by starting a new thread and then selecting the tag of the person you wish to reach from the group that has been assigned to it.

Click on Teams in the bottom menu of the app, and then tap on your team from the list that appears. Once you have clicked on More options, you will be given the option to Manage tags.

Frequently Asked Questions

The use of tags makes it extremely easy for the user to connect with a subset of people within a team, which means that they are able to connect with that subset of people very easily. In my role as a manager, I am able to assign custom tags to people in order to categorize them based on the information that is provided about their roles, projects, skills, or location based on what they have told me about them.
It has to be said that @mention tags are not available in the private team environment. (In the private channel, you are not able to create meetings.)
It is important to mark your message as urgent or important to make sure it is noticed by the recipient. There is an option for Important or Urgent under the compose box. The word IMPORTANT is added to the end of the sentence. Please note that this is an urgent matter! I look forward to hearing from you.
Whenever you @mention a team member, you will be able to see their name in the list of team members.
There is no need for anyone to use a hashtag to reference the entire team. All you have to do to mention the entire team is to use @Team at the bottom of the chat box corresponding to the team you wish to refer to. Once you click on the tab, the names of the team as well as an email letting them know they have been mentioned will appear on the screen and each team member will receive an email confirming when they were mentioned.
