Webex Events (new) is now Webex Webinars
In the beginning to mid-January of 2022, Webex Events (new) will be renamed as Webex Webinars to replace Webex Events (old). With Webex Webinars, you can experience a workshop that is unlike any other, offering a video-centric experience, intelligent features, and easy-to-use controls.
Webex Events (new) is now Webex Webinars
Beginning early to mid-January 2022, Webex Events (new) will be renamed to Webex Webinars, which will replace Webex Events (old). Changing the name of the product is a result of aligning it better with the rest of the Webex portfolio.
How does this affect Webex Events (new)?
-
In every location where Webex Events (new) is currently used, Webex Webinars will replace Webex Events (new) when it becomes available. As part of this, scheduling can be made available in the product, within the Control Hub, and also in marketing and help documentation. A change in name will also have an impact on APIs and on event reporting, particularly in regards to the field called Webinar or Webcast that is currently being used.
-
As part of this service, we have also simplified the scheduling flow for event organizers who plan to schedule an event for more than 3000 people. When it came to scheduling an event, organizers previously had two options: Webinars or Webcasts. As a result of this update, organizers are now able to select Webcast view for attendees, allowing them to only participate through text-based chat, Q&A, and polls instead of other forms of participation. A webcast view will be available for attendees of the event with licenses that support the attendance of at least 3000 people. Webcast viewing for attendees is required for webinars that have more than 10,000 registered attendees.
When you schedule a webinar, you will be able to see the maximum number of attendees in the drop-down list of the Maximum number of attendees. In other words, if you have a license for 3000-users, then the options from the drop-down list are limited to 0 – 3,000 users.
Does this change licensing?
-
In terms of provisioning, order processing, or SKU naming, there are no changes at the moment.
Does this impact Webex Events (classic)?
-
The Webex Events (classic) will not be changed in any way.
What do I need to do?
-
It is not necessary for you to take any action.
-
In order to reflect this new name change, as well as the new simplified scheduling flow, you may want to consider updating your training materials or documentation.
Webex Webinars and Events (classic)
During the fourth update (41.4) of your site, you became able to participate in Webex Webinars (formerly Webex Events (new)) as well as Events (classic) on your site. There are many advanced features in Webex Webinars that are familiar to you from Webex Meetings, in addition to those you are familiar with from the Event (classic) feature set of Webex. The Webinar feature will be enhanced in future updates as well.
There are 1000 users supported in the Classic Plan (events), so if you are on the Classic plan you will get support for up to 1000 users in Webinars as well. Currently, Webex Assistant for Meetings is not available as part of this plan. We invite you to get in touch with your Webex account team in order to learn more about adding Webex Assistant for Meetings and how to upgrade your plan so that it supports 3000 or more users and includes Webex Assistant for free.
For the events (classic) plan, if you have up to 3000 users, then you receive webinars for up to 3000 attendees, as well as webinars in the webcast view. Only plans that support up to 3000 users will be able to take advantage of the Webex Assistant for Meetings and Webex Webcast View. Your Webex account team can assist you in upgrading your plan if you wish to do so.
To schedule or start a webinar, you must have a plan that includes Events (classic), and you must select the session type Webex Events (classic) when scheduling the webinar. If you would like more information about Events (classic), please contact the site administrator, who is in charge of managing session types in the Control Hub and controlling Event (classic) on and off.
You can see what’s available in this update by visiting Compare Webinars and Events (classic) on the left side of your screen. Please visit the Known issues and limitations for webinars page if you would like to learn more about current issues and limitations.
Webinar Scheduler
On the Webex website home page or the Calendar page, a host can click on Schedule a webinar if they wish to schedule a Webinar. An event host is able to invite panelists, start a practice session automatically, and more by using the host tool. The latest 42.1 update adds the capability to select the attendees size and webcast view for plans that support a minimum of 3000 users. We will be able to help you schedule a webinar if you would like to learn more.
This will continue to cause the original event experience to be available when events are scheduled from the Events (classic) scheduler.
On the welcome page of the webinar, attendees are invited to join the conversation. On this page, attendees are required to register if they wish to attend the event and answer some questions. Attendees can be assigned roles on the welcome and registration pages provided by hosts, and hosts can also customize these pages.
Webinars and webcast view for attendees
Depending on the webinar plan you purchased, you can host webinars with up to 10,000 attendees or up to 100,000 attendees if you are using the webcast view. Regardless of what size webinar you choose or which view you prefer, we’ve improved the quality of your webinars:
-
With computer audio and motion-optimized content, presenters can share video and audio content with the audience.
-
The video and other content shared by the panelists will be available to all attendees.
-
It is possible to assign a cohost to your webinar, and the cohost can be assigned at the event of signing up for the webinar, or during the webinar, in order to assist in the management of attendees during the event.
-
All attendees can see the stage view set by the host.
Webcasts are available for subscription plans that support at least 3000 users, but not for plans that support less than 3000 users. For Webex for Government, webinars cannot be viewed in webcast format.
As a participant in a webinar, you will be provided with a wide range of features that will enable you to keep your audience engaged and get the most out of the webinar. It is soon going to be possible for all participants to send animated emoji reactions to other participants, select Music mode when they are performing, or check out the profile of a panelist with the insight profiles for people.
If you would like your webinar attendees to join and view your webinar with a simpler experience with limited interaction, you can host the webinar as a webcast. The webinar can be streamed directly from the web browser of the attendees after they receive the invitation and join the webinar with the welcome page. It is possible for participants to adjust volume, stop and restart video, expand to full screen, and chat with other attendees as well as participating in polls and answering questions posted by the host. There is no limit to the layout that the host can specify for the attendees during the webinar.
The Webex for Government platform does not allow you to view webinars in the webcast mode.
