Webex Meetings System Requirements and Cross-Platform Information
Cross-platform known issues and limitations
This section details any known difficulties and restrictions pertaining to the web browsers and computer operating systems that Webex Meetings is compatible with. You can find information about other known issues in the release notes that are specific to each service’s particular version.
Sharing files from personal My Webex folders
Although users are unable to share files from their own My Webex folders, they are still able to upload, download, and exchange files when participating in meetings.
Microsoft Office 2007 support
There is a possibility that Microsoft Office 2007 will show a security alert claiming that the digital signature for Webex Meetings is not legitimate.
It’s possible that users won’t be able to collaborate on Microsoft PowerPoint files. Sharing the screen of the device or the PowerPoint program with the other person is a workaround for this problem.
Microsoft Office 2010 support
- The 64-bit version of Microsoft Office is not compatible with the UCF Toolkit.
- There is no support for the brand new animations, transitions, and 3D visuals that were introduced in Microsoft Office 2010.
- Microsoft Outlook 2010 64-bit does not enable importing a business address book into the Webex Meetings contacts. This feature is not yet available.
Microsoft Office 2013 support
- When it comes to sharing files created in Microsoft PowerPoint 2013, the following capabilities are not supported if the installation of Microsoft Office 2013 is present:
-
- Animations and transitions
- Embedded video or audio files
- UCF Toolkit
- There is a possibility that certain customized items will not be supported in the customizable Info tabs. We strongly suggest that users validate it in order to guarantee that it will appear appropriately during meetings.
- The following complications might arise in a few specific instances:
- There is a possibility that the colors of the text and fill will vary somewhat from the real colors used in a slide.
- There is a possibility that a slide is missing certain visual components.
- There is a possibility that the fonts could seem fuzzy on a slide or that they will change from the original.
- It’s possible that the sizes of the forms won’t be exactly the same as the originals.
- If an item in a presentation created using Microsoft PowerPoint does not appear correctly when in edit mode, the object will be immediately erased when the presentation is viewed in Slide Show view. If the file is shared in a meeting, however, the object may continue to display.
- Users are unable to transfer files that are secured with a password using the file sharing tool in Microsoft PowerPoint 2013. Instead, you should use the capabilities that allow you to share applications or your desktop.
- On Windows 8 and 8.1, the file sharing function cannot be used by users to facilitate the sharing of Microsoft Excel 2013 files. Instead, you should use the capabilities that allow you to share applications or your desktop.
- The file sharing function of Windows 8 and 8.1 (64-bit) does not let users to exchange Word 2013 (64-bit) documents with one another. Instead, you should use the capabilities that allow you to share applications or your desktop.
Microsoft Office 2016 support
Webex Meetings for Windows and Mac both support the latest version of Microsoft Office 2016. The sharing of files including Microsoft PowerPoint presentations might, on occasion, result in an error. It’s also possible that the app will stop responding if you share many Microsoft PowerPoint presentations at the same time via file sharing.
Windows 2000
Beginning with this version, support for Windows 2000 will no longer be provided. Users with Windows 2000 might still be able to participate in meetings, but we can’t guarantee their performance.
Mac OS
- Users of versions of Mac OS X earlier than 10.6 are unable to connect to meetings going forward.
- Users of Macs that use the PowerPC architecture can no longer connect to meetings.
- On Mac computers, the Webex Meetings Network Recording Player does not offer functionality for transcoding recordings to the MP4 file format.
- Unfortunately, Webex Meetings for Mac does not yet offer support for multiple monitors.
Linux 64-bit support
- 64-bit Linux is supported through the Cisco Webex Meetings Web App. It is supported on Ubuntu 14.x and later versions, OpenSuSE 13.x and later versions, Fedora 18 and later versions, Red Hat 6 and later versions, and Debian 8.x and later versions.
- Issues and constraints that are already known:
-
- In order for the video, call my computer, and content sharing functions of Firefox to function, users of certain versions of Linux are required to proactively install and activate the “OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc.” plugin.
- Due to a problem with the WebRTC screen sharing API, content sharing does not function with Linux distributions that utilize Wayland as their display management system (for example, Fedora 25 and later). This includes versions of Fedora.
- In Fedora 28, there is a problem with the H.264 codec that prevents users from successfully sending and receiving video.
Mozilla Firefox 43 or later
The Webex Meetings Productivity Tools add-on for Mozilla Firefox is not supported in its current iteration, which is version 43 or later of Mozilla Firefox. We strongly suggest that users instead make use of Internet Explorer.
Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp
Cisco suggests using the most recent version of the Citrix receiver, available for both Windows and Mac operating systems, for the best possible experience.
- Webex Support does not currently offer support for XenApp.
- It’s possible that delivering video in Webex Meetings won’t operate as smoothly as it should due to an architectural restriction of the virtual desktop environment. In addition, the frame rate of the video that is being sent in a conference could not be very high. When video is sent, the user will have an experience that is less than ideal as a result of this.
- Due to the limits imposed by XenApp, certain video file types, including WMV, AVI, and MP4, are unable to be shared in a virtual desktop environment within Webex Meetings.
- Because these agents are immediately uninstalled by the underlying Citrix platform whenever the operating system is restarted, Remote Access and Access Anywhere are not supported.
- Unfortunately, we are unable to provide hands-on labs.
- You are only able to receive video while using the Cisco Webex Meetings Web App in XenApp or XenDesktop; you cannot transmit video at this time. Web browsers are unable to recognize virtual camera devices in a VDI environment, which is why this is the case.
- There is a possibility that users will have difficulties with the audio quality of Call utilizing PC while using the Cisco Webex Meetings Web App in XenApp or XenDesktop. When working in a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), the web app should be accessed using the Call me, Call in, or Call utilizing video system menu options.
VMware Horizon 7
- Webex Support does not currently provide compatibility with VMware Horizon.
- Because these agents are immediately uninstalled by the underlying VMware platform whenever the operating system is restarted, Remote Access and Access Anywhere are not supported.
- Unfortunately, we are unable to provide hands-on labs.
- You are only able to receive video while utilizing the Cisco Webex Meetings Web App in VMware Horizon 7. Sending video is not possible. Web browsers are unable to recognize virtual camera devices when used in a Horizon context, which is why this is the case.
- It is possible that you could have problems with the audio quality while using Call on your PC while utilizing the Cisco Webex Meetings Web App in VMware Horizon 7. When working in a Horizon setting with the web app, we advise selecting Call me, Call in, or Call utilizing video system as the method of communication.
Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
Using PAC proxy on Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion causes the meeting application to break while either creating a meeting or joining an existing one. Apple has acknowledged receiving a bug report regarding this issue with the operating system (Apple bug report number 11844696). The problem was fixed in the build of Mac OS X 10.8.2 that was released.
Internet Explorer 10 and 11
Internet Explorer versions 10 and 11’s desktop clients do not have their “Enhanced Protected Mode” feature supported. Because this mode provides a surfing experience that is not dependent on plugins, the Webex Meetings add-ons are disabled, and users have the option of downloading using Java or ActiveX. Users are still able to attend a meeting by using the approach using temporary folders. Users also have the option of disabling Enhanced Protected Mode in order to attend the meeting in the typical manner.
If you use Internet Explorer on your desktop and turn on the Compatibility View feature, it is possible that some Webex Meetings pages will not render correctly. We strongly suggest that site managers disable Compatibility View for their organization’s website.
Google Chrome
- There are some people who use Google Chrome who are unable to access the Chrome Web Store. When members in this instance attend a meeting, the Webex Meetings extension file is not immediately installed on their computers. These users will be sent to a support page that has step-by-step instructions for manually downloading and installing the extension file.
- It’s possible that the Webex Meetings extension add-on won’t install, in which case an error message will be displayed. It’s possible that this is due to the fact that Google Chrome doesn’t allow pop-up windows to trigger in-line installations. It’s possible that the integration will need to be altered so that it uses a top-level window rather than a pop-up window.
