Webex Meetings web app meeting functionality
It is now possible to join or start Webex Meetings from your web browser right from your Mac or PC, simply by using the Webex Meetings web app. Discover the features available in the web application and how to use them.
We are happy to announce that the Meetings web app can be accessed through Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari 7 and later. Please use Chrome or Firefox if you want to get the most out of the experience (including video).
As a panelist, you can participate in meetings (or webinars) using a video device as a way to join or start the meeting.
There are currently four versions available for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebooks, all of which support the following functionality:
-
With no plug-ins necessary, you will be able to start and join meetings easily.
-
Simple and intuitive controls make it easy for anyone to use:
-
It is possible to see who is the active speaker in the meeting by viewing the list of participants.
-
A participant can share content and you have the option to view the content they are sharing with you.
-
Shared content can be viewed in full screen or zoomed in and out in order to get a better view of it.
-
When the meeting is being recorded, the Recording icon will appear at the top of the screen.
-
Up to 4K video and streaming content can be received and viewed.
-
-
Depending on the settings on your site, unauthenticated users may not be able to access unlocked personalized rooms unless they are admitted by the host. After the room has been unlocked, anyone who has not signed in will wait in the lobby until the room has been unlocked. The host has the option of seeing the list of people who are waiting and deciding who to admit.
-
Audio and video are integrated as follows:
As of this writing, only Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge web browsers (77.0.235.20 as of this writing) are supported when connecting to audio using your computer. Your phone can be connected to audio through any of the supported browsers.
-
When you join a meeting for the first time, you have the option of setting audio and video connection types.
-
It is possible to join audio and video at the same time by using both the audio and video connection options displayed simultaneously on the screen.
-
In the Audio Connection dialog box, you will be able to retrieve the option that you last used when connecting to an audio connection during a meeting. It keeps track of the last phone number that you called when you used the Call Me service.
-
If you don’t like one audio connection option, you can easily switch to another one.
-
In the Audio Connection dialog box, you will see the phone numbers in your Webex preferences. In the Webex app, you can make edits to the phone numbers that you prefer, which will then be saved to the server for future use.
-
There is an option to connect to audio without pressing the 1 key.
-
There are also other options available, such as teleconferences and no teleconferences.
-
The capability of sending and receiving video is available only if you are using Chrome version 52 and later, Firefox version 45 and later, and Safari version 11 and later.
-
A video stream’s size, its bit rate, and its resolution are all determined by the state of the network.
In Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, you can stream video at a resolution of 1080p, and in Safari, you can stream video at a resolution of 720p.
- A callback can be sent to the video endpoint you are using.
-
Upon clicking the Call My Video System button, you are presented with the video endpoint address you have set up in your Webex preferences. The Webex server will save the preferences addresses you have entered in the web app, so it can later be edited.

-
You can present your content and share it with others
-
If you wish to share your screen, simply click the “Start Sharing” button.
-
A number of options are available to you, such as sharing a specific application or your entire screen.
-
Chrome and Firefox are the only browsers that currently support content sharing.
The Webex and Webex Teams Content Sharing extension must be installed in Chrome version 71 or earlier to enable content sharing in Webex and Webex Teams. Chrome version 72 or later does not require you to install this add-on.

Host functionality
-
Meetings should be started and ended on time.
-
Using the “Recorder” button, you can start and stop the recording process.
-
If you want to assign a host or presenter role to someone, mute an attendee or unmute an attendee, or remove a user, you can use the Participants menu.
-
As each participant joins the meeting, you can be able to mute them as they join the meeting so that the noise does not interrupt you. During the meeting, participants can choose to unmute or mute themselves if they wish to do so. Please allow them to do so.
Select the Participant Settings option from the More options menu. Select Mute on entry as soon as a participant joins the meeting so that he or she can be muted or unmuted. As shown in the following image, participants are muted as soon as they enter the meeting if there is a checkmark next to the Mute on entry option.
-
There is a choice to be made as to whether or not the participants in the meeting can unmute themselves. Select Participant Settings from the More options menu at the top of the page. If you want attendees to be able to unmute themselves, check or uncheck this box. Attendees will have the option to unmute themselves when the box is checked. Unmute must be checked next to the participant’s name when it’s unchecked in order to send a request for the participant to unmute themselves.
-
The participants can beep or hear tones when they join and leave the meeting during the meeting, which can be turned off during a meeting. Select Participant Settings under More options once you have selected More options. Select the entry and exit tones on the left side of the screen to enable or disable the beeps and tones. It is not possible to turn on the tones when there are no checkmarks next to Entry and exit tone.
Using the Use computer for audio option when the Announce Name feature is selected does not give the option of recording and announcing one’s name.
