Webex SIP Addresses in Control Hub
SIP Address Format
When you have finished specifying the organization-wide subdomain in Control Hub, SIP addresses for Webex will immediately be generated. Their system utilizes the domains.calls.webex.com (for users) and.rooms.webex.com (for Room, Desk, and Board devices), respectively. The SIP address format for users looks like this: username@example.calls.webex.com, and the format for devices looks like this: workspacename@example.rooms.webex.com:
- the value that you specify for the subdomain for your Webex organization is an example, for instance.
- In the Webex cloud, the user ID or email address is represented by the format username@example. This does not include the top-level domain.
- workspacename is a specialized name that you give to a Workspace that has a shared device, such as a meeting room or shared space name. You give this name to the Workspace when you create it. Take, for instance, the Tangram Boardroom or the Reception.
Subdomain Value
You are free to add any value you like; however, it should be a value that is readily identifiable as having some connection to your company. Be sure to select a subdomain that uniquely identifies your company, and select it in accordance with the requirements provided in the Control Hub. The following are some guidelines that should be followed:
- The value needs to be one of a kind, and it is typically the name of your business.
- You are free to use any combination of letters and digits (up to 63 total characters) when entering the subdomain.
Subdomain Errors and Solutions
-
Invalid subdomain name—You are using characters that are not supported. Only letters and digits, please, when entering a value.
-
Not available. Please try another name—The domain you entered is already taken; please try again with a different value and then perform the check to see if it is still available.
Webex SIP Addresses and Users
My Profile in Webex Settings, which can be accessed at https://settings.webex.com, is where users may locate their unique Webex SIP address. The user’s SIP address, which was issued to them, is displayed below their name.
Users’ Webex SIP addresses are accessible from any SIP phone that has TLS configured on it and can be dialed directly. Please refer to the page entitled “Requirements for Business-to-Business (B2B) SIP Calls To and From the Webex Cloud” for additional information.
When users make calls through a directory search, the Webex SIP addresses are utilized to route calls from Webex Calling phones and simultaneously deliver calls to a user’s phone and the Webex app.
When using Webex Calling (Unified CM) or Hybrid Calling, the SIP address is used to direct incoming calls to the cloud to a particular user (referred to as username in the preceding example). The user’s Webex SIP address will be displayed as the caller ID for all outbound calls made by that user. On the other hand, calling an on-premises directory URI between users of Calling in Webex (Unified CM) or Hybrid Calling causes the user’s Webex app as well as their desk phone to ring simultaneously.
- When the caller dials the corporate directory URI, the call is routed to ring both the Webex app and the on-premises phone. This is seen from the perspective of the person making the call.
- When specific conditions are met during a call, the Webex SIP address will be displayed as the caller ID in the call history. In these circumstances, users may place a call back to the SIP address.
- It is up to the company to decide whether or not to utilize the SIP address as the routing address. If you use Calling in Webex (Unified CM) and you publish your users’ directory URIs publicly as their contactable SIP addresses, then this is the option that we advise you to go with.
Webex SIP Addresses and Webex Devices in a Workspace
Calling between businesses is made possible through the use of the Webex SIP address, as is callback to the Webex SIP address. A Webex SIP address of the form workspacename@example.rooms.webex.com is given to each Webex Workspace.
Assigning a Room, Desk, or Board device as a Workspace in the Control Hub enables Hybrid Calling for Webex devices. When Hybrid Calling is used for the room device Workspace, the cloud-registered device obtains its directory number from the premises call control environment and routes all of its calls through Cisco Unified Communication Manager. This is the case even if the device is registered in the cloud. The Webex device that is registered in the cloud makes use of the PSTN infrastructure that is already in place.
