Zoom Meeting and Webinar passcodes
You can add a layer of security by requiring passcodes for meetings and webinars. Individual meetings and webinars may be secured by a passcode, or users, groups, and accounts may enable them. Passcode settings for all meetings and webinars can be locked, and admins can set a minimum passcode requirement and require passcodes for all meetings and webinars.
You will need to lock the setting after it is enabled if you wish to enforce it for all users in your account or a group of users. It is possible for users to disable unlocked settings in their personal settings when a setting is enabled but not locked.
Passcode settings are as follows:
- Scheduling upcoming meetings requires a passcode
- In addition, all previous meetings have a passcode
- To join an instant meeting
- PMI access requires a passcode
Note: - Among the options:
- Join before the host is enabled only for PMI meetings
- In general
- One-click joining via embedded passcode
- Phone participation requires logging in
In addition, Zoom Rooms has an option called Bypass the passcode when joining a meeting from the meeting list. It allows them to join meetings directly from the meeting list, rather than having to enter a password. An invitation to the meeting must include the passcode. Versions 4.5.0 and higher are required on Zoom Room computers and controllers in order to use this feature.
Notes:
- For Zoom accounts with a single licensed user, for Pro accounts with 2 or more licenses, and for Business accounts with 10 to 100 licenses, meeting attendees will be required to enter a passcode or use a waiting room as of September 27. All free accounts are required to have meeting passwords (passcodes).
- On October 18, 2020, Passcodes or Waiting Rooms will be needed for Zoom for Government accounts with fewer than 100 licenses. Zoom support can provide more information about this.
- For certain accounts, Zoom will start requiring meetings to be secured with one of the following options starting December 20, 2020: passcode, waiting room, or only authenticated users will be allowed to join. More information can be found in meeting settings.
- A random passcode is assigned to webinars by default. This can be changed at any time.
- The invitation will include a numeric number and an alphanumeric passcode for everyone to call in with if your meeting includes phone and/or room systems participants.
