Zoom screen sharing security
It is possible to share your desktop, screen, or any other content, in real-time, during a Zoom meeting, even though your video is playing. It is also possible to modify advanced settings for screen sharing when you share your screen during a meeting.
During Zoom meetings, the idea of screen sharing is to create a collaborative environment for participants to collaborate on. By using this feature, users are only able to control how other meeting participants can or cannot see their own screen and the information they display on their own screen. Unless you share your screen with the meeting hosts, the hosts will not be able to see what you are doing on your screen.
Can the host see what I’m doing on my screen?
In order to ensure the privacy of your screen, no one can see or hear it without your permission and without your knowledge. A Zoom meeting will only allow you to view the screen of your computer when you join it as a participant. Your video and audio are only visible to them if you don’t muffle your microphone or turn off your video when you join a meeting, unless you choose to mute your microphone or switch off your video.
Screen sharing is one of the features available to participants and hosts in Zoom meetings. All meeting participants will be able to see the screen shared by the host or participant only if the host or participant shares their screen. Click or tap on Share Screen to share your screen or other content with others, located in the meeting controls, in order to share your screen or other content with them. In order to share their personal screen, a user must manually control their own screen in order to do so.
What will the host see when I share my screen?
Through Zoom, you have multiple options when it comes to sharing your screen. You can choose Basic mode, Advanced mode, or File mode.
In order to share your screen, you can select from the following options:

Screen of a desktop computer or a mobile phone

A specific application or a set of applications

Using a resizable rectangular window, you can display a portion of your screen

An additional camera has been used to capture content

Whiteboard

This is a video that has been stored locally

Playback of audio from the device

The screen of an iPhone or iPad
By sharing your entire desktop or mobile device screen, all of the information that you are viewing on your desktop or mobile device will be visible to your meeting participants, including application access or files that you are opening. The host as well as participants cannot see what you are doing on your computer or mobile device when you are not screen sharing, which means they cannot see what you are doing on your computer or mobile device, and they cannot see any apps that you have installed.
Can the host open my apps or files during screen share?
You cannot share your screen with the host or any other participant or share your desktop or mobile device, so they cannot open any of your applications or files on your desktop or mobile device. In order to screen share, each user must take control over their own screen; the host of the meeting can only view what you choose to share on your screen; the other meeting participants cannot see anything that has been shared by another user.
A user may also use the remote control feature of your device to control a meeting participant’s screen if you enable remote control. If you allow remote access to your device, a user can control a meeting participant’s screen if you enable remote control. A participant can either request to be able to control the screen of another participant or be allowed to do so by the other participant. The mouse and keyboard can be controlled by you once you have been given permission to do that, as well as copying text from their screen to your own. The Remote Support service is the best option if you require administrative capabilities, such as the ability to restart the computer of another participant, or if you wish to set up a new protocol. You can use remote control to open files and programs, but you can only do this by granting remote control access to another participant, so that the remote control feature can be used by them.
How can I tell if my screen is being shared? How can I tell what is being shared when I choose to screen share?
Windows | macOS | Linux
A green border will be displayed around the shared area of your screen when you share your screen. A You are screen sharing green message box will also appear on the left hand side of the screen, along with a Stop Share button below it, so that you can drag these controls around your screen as you please.
Clicking the Stop Sharing button will stop your screen from being shared with others.
Android
The Android system will display a notification as soon as you start a screen share on an Android device. The notification will inform you what the screen share will be able to access and what access the screen share will have. Screen Broadcast is an icon that appears in the notification bar of your Android device, indicated that screen sharing is taking place, at the top of the screen. At the bottom of the screen, you will also have the ability to share your screen with other members of the meeting.
iOS
When sharing the screen on iOS devices, you may notice that the iOS system will display a notification telling you exactly what information the screen share will have access to when you begin the screen share process. As soon as you launch the iOS device’s screen, you will notice an icon called Screen Broadcast appear in your status bar, which indicates that the screen sharing process is in progress. A page called You are sharing your screen will appear when you open the Zoom mobile app on your smartphone. Below the meeting controls, you will also find a screen sharing control for screen sharing with others in the meeting.
