Zoom Setting up of Speed dial and BLF (Busy Lamp Field).
Overview.
Speed dial permits you to allocate any phone number to the line key on the phone. You can conveniently dial the number by pressing the physical line on your line key or phone on your mobile’s touch screen.
The BLF or Busy Lamp field permits you to see the call status for the other zoom phone users. For instance, when the user is on a call then, you can probably find an indicator light or red icon.
Also, you can customize the order, outbound caller ID, and alias of the line keys in helping you to identify the ones having the BLF or speed dial.

Preconditions.
The user must possess the zoom phone license and the provisioned desk phone that supports speed dial and BLF.
Restrictions.
Before you can set up or BLF or use the speed dial, consider the following restrictions.
- The setting up of BLF or speed dial would not affect the outbound caller ID of the phone number.
- Only you can fix the BLF to find the call status of other phone users. You can’t fix the BLF to find the call status of any other extension; for instance, zoom common area phones or zoom rooms.
- When you are setting up the BLF, then the phone user which you chose to add can’t be part of the shared line group or call delegation setup. In simple words, each phone user should belong to any of these setups: shared line group, zoom call delegation, or BLF.
- When a zoom phone user alters their extension number, then it causes every device to subscribe to the phone user’s BLF to reboot.
- Those devices in shared status the line for BLF or zoom speed dial won’t work. From the synced zoom web portal, these devices will not have their BLF settings and speed dial.
- Those light colors or icons for BLF are specified by the zoom desk phone manufacturer. Various manufacturers or models can have varied ways of showing status. For that, you have to visit the support page of the manufacturer’s website to learn more about using the BLF and speed dial on your desk phone.
- When you alter the BLF or speed dial settings directly on the phone then these further changes will fail to sync to the Zoom web portal. The BLF settings or speed dial can only sync from the desk phones and web portal.
- For adding pauses, use comma (,) while adding the speed dials on supported yealink phones. You can use it to add the dial string to join a zoom meeting. For instance, a typical dial string would look like this: 18001431432,,,1234567809#,,123456#.
How to access the line key zoom settings?
Zoom Admin.
When you are a zoom admin then you can access the line key zoom settings for the phone user are phone in the account.
Step 1. You have to zoom sign in to the web portal.
Step 2. From the navigation menu, tap on the phone system management followed by users and rooms.
Step 3. Tap on the common area phone or user tab.
Step 4. Then you have to tap on the name of the common area place or the phone user.
Step 5. Tap on the user settings section in case you are a zoom phone user or settings tab for the common area phones.
Step 6. From the key and position section, tap on view and edit.
Step 7. Tap on the manage key.
Zoom user.
When you are a phone user, then access the one line key settings by following the steps-
Step 1. You have to zoom sign in to the web portal.
Step 2. Tap on the phone.
Step 3. Tap on the settings section.
Step 4. In the keys and position category, tap view or edit.
Step 5. Tap on the manage key.
Way to set up the speed dial.
Step 1. You can access line key settings with the admin or user role.
Step 2. In any of the keys, tap the set key.
Step 3. Alter the following options in these columns
- Line Subscription: input your phone number in E.164 format which would contain details like-
- Area code.
- Country code.
- Phone number.
- Key type: choose speed dial.
- Key ( optional). You can adjust the line keys order. For that drag and drop any row or can use the arrow button for shifting each row in upward or downward order.
- Alias ( optional). Input an alias that is displayed on your phone. An alias would make it convenient for you in identifying lines when you have several direct phone numbers or shared lines. The alias will feature at the room desk phone screen only and should not affect the caller ID.
Remember, Inputting the custom alias will replace the other default alias.
Step 4. Tap on save.
Remember, Connect phones will by default reboot to apply the changes. The phone can reboot several times.
Using a speed dial.
Remember, ensure that you have a desk phone supporting it or have a setup speed dial for it.
Yealink.

- You can call a speed dial line.
- T5 and T4 series along with a touch screen. Click on the line key on the home screen of the phone.
- T4 series without a touchscreen. Click the physical line key on the phone. By noting whether the line key light turns to solid green you will know that you’re using it.
- Optionally. You can pick up the phone headset. For that click the speakerphone button which is usually situated at the right of the physical dial pad. With this, you can switch back to speakerphone.
Polycom.
- For calling a speed-dial line:
- VVX series with physical line keys. Click the line key on the phone’s home screen. The line key light will switch to solid green acting as an indicator that you are using it.
- VVX series with a touchscreen. Cluck the physical line key of the phone.
- Optionally. Choose the phone’s headset For that click the speakerphone button which is usually situated at the right of the physical dial pad. With this, you can switch back to speakerphone.
Setting up the busy Lamp Field. Or (BLF).
Step 1. You can access line key settings with the admin or user role.
Step 2. In any of the keys, tap the set key.
Step 3. Alter the following options in these columns :
- Key type: choose BLF.
- Line Subscription. Input the name and extension number of the phone user. The phone user should be in the same account as the phone user is setting up the BLF. Though they can belong to a distinct site than the one in which the phone user is setting up BLF.
- Alias (optional). Input an alias that is displayed on your phone. An alias would make it convenient for you in identifying lines when you have several direct phone numbers or shared lines. The alias will feature at the room desk phone screen only and should not affect the caller ID.
Remember, Inputting the custom alias will replace the other default alias.
Step 4. Tap on save.
Remember, the engaged phone will by default reboot for applying changes. Phones can reboot several times.
Using BLF or Busy Lamp Field.
Remember,
- Ensure you set up BLF and is having a supporting zoom desk phone.
- This section would serve as a generic explanation of lights and icons for BLF. Those icons and lights are inferred by the desk phone manufacturer.
