Zoom Virtual Background system requirements

Zoom desktop clients and mobile apps can utilize Virtual Backgrounds in this article. You can check the list of requirements outlined below to see if your version and computer or device are compatible with Virtual Background troubleshooting. Devices and operating systems that meet the background requirements include Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. Whether you use an image or video for your background and whether you use a physical green screen will affect your requirements.

For the best Virtual Background experience during video conferencing, a green screen is recommended but not required.

Notes:

  • The first digit (or two) of the processor number can be used to determine the generation of your processor; the remaining three digits are the model number. Intel’s i7-6700, for example, is a model from the 6th generation of i7 processors.
  • In a virtual environment, there is no support for virtual backgrounds without a green screen.
  • In addition to Windows and macOS desktop clients, Android and iOS mobile apps also support blurred backgrounds. It is mandatory that desktop clients only use images without a green screen.

Virtual Background requirements for Zoom desktop client

Windows

Image only without a physical green screen

  • Version 5.2.0 or higher of the Zoom desktop client
  • (64-bit) for Windows 7, 8 and 10

Video without a physical green screen

  • Zoom desktop client, version 4.6.4 or higher
  • Windows 7, 8, or 10 (64-bit)
  • Supported processors (720p background video)
    • Intel i5, i7, i9
      • 2 cores or higher
      • 6th generation or higher
      • Excludes Atom and Y series
      • Processor must have Intel GPU
      • OS must be Windows 10, 64-bit
  • Supported processors (1080p background video)
    • Intel i5

Sending HD video when using Virtual Background

With Virtual Background, your outgoing video resolution is capped at 720p without a green screen. You must meet the HD video guidelines and these system requirements to achieve 1080p when using Virtual Background without a green screen:

  • Zoom desktop client for macOS: version 5.8.6 or higher
  • Intel processor: 6 cores or higher
  • Apple M-Series or higher

Linux

Image only with a physical green screen

  • Zoom desktop client, version 2.0 or higher
  • 2 cores, 2Ghz or higher (i5/i7 or AMD equivalent) processor
  • A physical green screen

Image only without a physical green screen

  • Zoom desktop client, version 5.7.6 or higher

Virtual Background requirements for Zoom mobile app

iOS

  • Zoom mobile app, version 5.3.0 or higher
  • iPhone 8, 8+, X, or newer models

  • 7th generation and higher 10.2” iPad
  • iPad Pro

Note: Blurred background option requires Zoom mobile app version 5.6.6 (423) or higher

Android

  • Zoom mobile app, version 5.3.0 or higher
  • Android 8.0 or higher
  • arm64 processor
    • 8 cores or higher
  • 3GB or higher RAM
  • GPU
    • Qualcomm Adreno:
      • 540 (Snapdragon 835 / Snapdragon SDM835), or higher than 615 (QCS605 or Snapdragon SDM710)
    • Mali:
      • G series with version G72 or later
      • CPU must be later than Exynos 9810, Exynos 990, Kirin 980, or Dimensity 1000.
  • Only the following phone manufacturers are supported:
    • Google

    • Vivo
    • Xiaomi
    • Huawei

Note:

Zoom mobile app version 5.6.6 (2076) or higher is required to use blurred background.
