Add Features to Webex Room Phone
From the moment the Webex Room Phone is installed, it is fully functional. It can, however, be customized to meet your needs.
The default setting for most features and settings is to enable them. These items can, however, be customized according to your preferences.
Control Hub Parameters
Make sure that your device is customized to suit your needs from the Control Hub.
There are some limitations that you should be aware of if you use Standby:
-
Currently, standby is only supported by HDMI-CEC, which means that your device must be connected to a display port that supports Consumer Electronics Control (CEC).
-
Standby mode is not supported by all HDMI displays, but some HDMI displays do support HDMI-CEC.
-
The display screen should not be connected to the device with a HMI switch.
-
Control Hub may require you to configure the standby feature settings and enable Standby on the display.
Additional details about Standby can be found in the documentation for HDMI displays.
Control Hub features are listed in the following table. When configuring your features, be sure to take this information into account.
Table 1. Features and parameters
| Parameter | Field Type or Choices | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| DigitalSignageServer | — | — | Allows you to show custom content on your display screen. |
| Language | Pull down menu | English (United States) | Select your preferred display language. Configure Language from Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Unified CM) if you deploy for Unified CM Calling with Control Hub. |
| Maintenance > Restart | Do Nothing Restart | Do Nothing | Restarts your device. It doesn't affect your settings and it retains the log files. |
| Standby > Control | On Off | On | Allows the display to enter power save mode. When set to On, your display sleeps when idle. Disable this parameter if your display screen doesn't support HDMI-CEC. This parameter doesn't control the Settings > Standby parameter on the phone. |
| Standby > Delay | Slider | 10 minutes | Sets the delay before your device enters and the screen display turns off. Standby mode If you configure Digital signage, then this parameter resets to 120 minutes. |
| Time Zone | Pull down menu | Automatic | Configure your local time zone. If you deploy for Unified CM Calling with Control Hub, then configure Time Zone from Unified CM. |
| UltrasoundVolume | Slider | 100 | Detects Webex App devices in the room. We recommend that you leave this field at the default setting. |
Set Up Features for a Single Device
The Control Hub is the central point for configuring and controlling all cloud-based features. Different features can be enabled based on your changing needs at any time.
- You need to go to the Devices section in the customer view under https://admin.webex.com/.
- From the inventory, select the device that you want to use.
- Choose Advanced Configurations from the drop-down menu.
- Configure the settings based on the selected feature.
- Then click the Apply button.
- Then click the Close button.
Configure Digital Signage
When your device is idle, you can show customized content on it through digital signage, updating it with your customized content. The display of advertising content is a great way to promote your brand and advertise, but you can also display announcements or information to visitors and employees internally.
Display mode is activated after a period of inactivity of several minutes. If you need an image for a meeting, screen share, or an upcoming event scheduled on the calendar, you won’t see it.
There are a number of specifications that should be noted:
-
In terms of resolution, 1920×1080 is the maximum. It is AppSpace’s default setting to resize any image, regardless of its size, when it is uploaded.
-
.png and .jpeg are the supported formats for static image files.
Depending on the settings you have for your screen display, your digital signage images may look different. The display settings of your TV can be changed if your static images appear to be distorted or are of poor quality in any way. If this occurs, then you should change the settings of your TV. Some display manufacturers allow users to adjust their Sharpness setting (for example, you can allow it to be set at a lower level) or change the Picture Mode setting (for example, Computer). See your TV’s documentation for additional information if you would like to learn more.
There will be a change in the following Standby settings after you configure Digital Signage:
-
The Standby > Control setting is reset to the On position.
-
Activate the Standby mode and the delay will reset to 120 minutes and the Standby mode will be enabled. In order to enter standby mode, the device must wait for this amount of time.
There is no support for HTML5 at this time.

Lock Your Device Settings
A phone’s settings can be locked by the administrator using the Control Hub. In this case, the settings can be restricted to people that have the access to them, and this prevents that important parameters are accidentally adjusted in an unintended manner.
If you do not activate your phone before you unlock the parameters, you will not be able to unlock them unless the phone is activated first.
The following settings are locked by this feature:
-
Language
-
Time zone
-
Device activation
-
Network connection
-
Reset
There are a number of parameters that are locked together. Individual settings are not able to be locked.
In order to unlock the settings on the phone, you need to perform a hard factory reset.
- In the admin section of https://admin.webex.com, you can access your workspace by going to Workspace, and searching for the workspace you’re looking for.
- Click on the cogwheel icon on the Devices page after selecting the workspace, and then go to the Devices tab.
- It is possible to toggle on or off the Lock Settings when using a touch device.
- Then click the Done button.
