Cisco Webex Video Platform Version 2
The Cisco Webex Video Platform is the essential component that ensures a consistent and fluid conferencing experience across all Webex applications and video conferencing systems.
What Does Version 2 Mean?
This is Cisco’s next-generation platform, which was designed from the ground up to meet the requirements of customers who participate in modern-day conferencing. To put it another way, it improves upon the capabilities of the previous version that it replaces.
Benefits of Version 2
The following are some of the primary functional areas in which Version 2 is an improvement over Version 1:
- Security
- Intelligence
- Integration of Webex Rooms’s many devices
- Video and content experience
- Scale
Security
Webex Meetings offer the highest level of security available in the market since they were developed using a straightforward product development strategy known as secure by design, rather than adding security as an afterthought.
The Cisco Webex Video Platform Version 2 enables more granular control over people who join from video conferencing systems and also provides attendees with more information that is contextual to the meeting that they are attending. The following functionalities contribute to a more secure experience for conference attendees:
-
External user lobby
You have the ability to keep users from other organizations who are trying to join your meetings in the lobby until you decide whether or not to admit them. You may rest easy knowing that the confidentiality of your meeting will be preserved in this manner, and that no one will be able to participate in it unless you specifically invite them to do so.
In addition, if your Webex Rooms devices are connected to the cloud, you will have access to a user-friendly interface that allows you to let guests in who are waiting in the lobby.
-
Easily join from your own devices
Users can participate in meetings using devices owned by your organization without having to worry about entering PINs or keys.
-
Meeting Participants list on Cisco Webex Rooms devices
When you join a meeting using one of Cisco’s award-winning Webex Rooms devices, whether you join in cloud or on-premises connected mode, a full list of participants who are in the conference is given to you. This occurs regardless of whether you join the meeting using the cloud or on-premises connected mode. In contrast to traditional systems, which are only able to display a predetermined number of attendees at a time on the screen, this adds an additional level of situational awareness regarding the meeting.
Intelligence
Users are able to make use of the intelligence features offered by the Webex Assistant for Webex Meetings. These services include live transcription and meeting highlights that are accessible across all Webex Rooms devices and Webex apps.
Webex Rooms Devices Integration
Experience deep integration with Webex Rooms systems, including wireless control of your room systems and wireless content sharing directly from within the Webex app on your device.
You can also view an updated participant list, in which people who are attached to a Webex Rooms device are displayed together in a grouping format.
Video and Content Experience
The increased level of interaction between apps and devices during meetings results in an enhanced user experience.
-
See all video participants across apps and devices
There are no restrictions placed on a user’s ability to view the video streams being broadcast by any other participant in a meeting. Users of Webex apps could only see the active speaker on a video conferencing system while using Cisco Webex Video Platform Version 1; or vice versa.
-
High frame rate content sharing
When you want to share dynamic content, you can share it in a mode that is optimized for video for a better experience. This mode is available to you when you want to share dynamic content. When you are sharing a video clip, you also have the option of capturing the audio.
-
Video IVR and lobby experience
Users on video conferencing systems would have been presented with an audio-only experience with no visual input in the initial version of the software. Users of Version 2 now have access to a visual IVR system that walks them through the steps of joining the meeting and how to participate in it.
In addition to this, it offers a visual lobby experience that gives the user information regarding the current state of the meeting, such as when the user is waiting for the host to begin the meeting.
-
Meeting controls for on-premises registered video systems
Rich meeting controls are available on devices that are cloud-registered for Webex Rooms. We have made these capabilities accessible on any standards-based video system by utilizing numeric keypad controls. For example, to lock or unlock your conference, you can press the *5 key on your numeric keypad.
-
Support for dual-screen video systems
Users are able to view video of other participants on both screens of a dual-screen Webex Rooms device that has been registered for use on-premises. In Version 1, the participant video could only be displayed on the left side of the screen. At this time, the active speaker will be shown on the left, and a grid view of the other attendees will be shown on the right.
-
Join Webex Events as a panelist from a video system
Users of video systems can now join major events as panelists and contribute their content in high quality when participating in huge events when someone is presenting an important issue. These users can also share their content in the events.
-
Two-way Whiteboarding across devices and apps
Users are able to take part in co-creation sessions inside the context of a meeting by utilizing industry-leading video systems such as Webex Board, DeskPro, and the DX-series.
-
Short Video Address
You are now able to attend your meetings in a more timely manner by utilizing a more condensed video address in the form of meeting_number>@webex.com.
Scale
A more immersive experience is now attainable as a result of the growing number of people who are participating via video conferencing technology.
Known Issues
The following is a list of behaviors that are known to occur with version 2 of the Cisco Webex Video Platform:
- The H.263 video codec is not supported, which means that video conferencing systems cannot use it. If you choose to participate in meetings using a system that does not support H.263, the content that you have shared will be incorporated into the main video feed alongside the video of the other participants.
- It is no longer possible to receive technical assistance for Cisco video conferencing systems that have achieved their End of Life, such as the CTS-series of systems.
- It is not possible to join a Webex meeting by calling in from another conferencing bridge because this feature is not supported. In the event that you decide to give this a shot, the integrity of the content-sharing experience cannot be guaranteed.
