To ensure the security of organizational data, owners on the Enterprise Grid plan can restrict access to Slack for members using jailbroken iOS or rooted Android devices. Enabling this setting will block any member from accessing their workspaces if their device is detected to be jailbroken or rooted. This feature is crucial for maintaining a secure communication environment within your organization.
Who Can Use This Feature?
Organization Owners
Subscription Requirement: Enterprise Grid
Slack’s Enterprise Grid offers robust mobile security options to manage both corporate and personal mobile devices. Key features include:
- Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) Integration: Allows administrators to manage Slack on mobile devices through leading EMM providers, ensuring secure access and compliance with company policies.
- Device Approvals: Admins can require approval before devices can access Slack, providing control over which devices are permitted.
- Security Controls: Enforce strong security controls such as mandatory PIN codes, remote wipe capabilities, and restricting message copying outside of Slack.
- Single Sign-On (SSO): Streamlines the login process and enhances security by integrating with your organization’s SSO solution.
- Data Loss Prevention (DLP): Helps prevent the sharing of sensitive information via Slack on mobile devices, ensuring that data policies are adhered to.
To learn more about these security options, visit Slack’s Mobile Security page on the Enterprise Grid section of their website.
What slack members can expect
With the security setting enabled to block access from jailbroken or rooted devices, Slack members can expect the following:
- Single Sign-On (SSO) Users:
- Members using SSO from jailbroken or rooted devices will be blocked when attempting to sign in to Slack.
- Email and password users:
- Members signing in with their email address and password from jailbroken or rooted devices might initially gain access to Slack. However, they will be signed out the next time Slack performs a check for jailbroken or rooted devices.
- Browser Users:
- Members accessing Slack from a browser on jailbroken or rooted devices will be able to sign in successfully. Nonetheless, they will be signed out the next time Slack checks for jailbroken or rooted devices.
These measures help ensure the security of the organization’s data by preventing access from compromised devices.
