Skype Translator Privacy FAQ
When I use translation on Skype, is my conversation content collected and how is it used?
Skype collects and uses all your conversation data when you use the translation features of the service to provide you with the translation. It is possible that Microsoft may use the data you provide about yourself to improve its products and services with your permission. As part of our continuous effort to improve the translation and speech recognition technology, we analyze sentences as well as automatic transcripts and insert any corrections into our system as a way of helping it learn and grow, so that we can build more performant services. There may be instances where Microsoft employees and vendors are tasked with trancribing audio recordings on a contract basis, subject to procedures designed to protect users’ privacy, such as de-identifying the data, requiring vendors and their employees to sign non-disclosure agreements with Microsoft, and requiring vendors to comply with high standards of privacy set out by European law.
