Converting a Poly phone to a Zoom Phone Appliance
In order to allow the assigned phone user to use a Poly CCX series phone as a Zoom Phone Appliance, admins can convert the CCX phone into a Zoom Phone Appliance.
The conversion process for the Poly CCX desk phone depends on its current status and usage, as well as its current configuration. Please refer to the relevant sections below.

The simplified conversion process to convert a Poly CCX 600/700 that’s already provisioned in Zoom Phone can be followed.
This article covers:
- Converting a new phone (never powered up or registered)
- Converting a phone that was used with another service provider
- Converting a phone that was used with Microsoft Teams
- Converting a phone already in use with Zoom Phone
- Converting back to Zoom SIP mode
Prerequisites
- Ownership or admin rights on the account
- For the Poly Zoom phone appliance that is supported
- Will only be available after version 5.6.6 of the phone appliance.
Converting a new phone (never powered up or registered)
- Zoom’s web portal must be logged in.
- Then click Device Management from the navigation menu. Then click Device List from the list of devices.
- You can add the Zoom Phone Appliance by clicking the ellipses (…) in the top-right corner.
- Add the Zoom Phone Appliance by following the steps.
It will update the firmware. Reboots may be necessary during this process. Once it is complete and the reboots have stopped, you can continue. - Start up the device as follows:
- Type in the new administrator password and confirm it.
- Confirm the End User License Agreement.
- Language selection.
- Choose the time zone.
- Zoom Phone as the Base Profile
- Select Yes to proceed
- If you haven’t already signed in to the Zoom Phone Appliance, do so after the phone reboots.
Converting a phone that was used with another service provider
Following these steps will help you convert your phone if it is currently connected to another provider.
- You will need to sign in to your Zoom account to begin using the service.
- Select Device Management then Device List from the menu bar to start using the service.
- In the top-right corner, click on the ellipsis (…) button, and then on Add Zoom Phone Appliance.
- The process for adding the Zoom Phone Appliance is straightforward.
- Activate the Reset to Defaults option in Settings > Advanced > Administrator Settings > Reset to Factory Defaults menu.
This will update the device’s firmware. You may need to reboot the device multiple times during this process. Make sure that the device is completely updated before continuing the process. - You can do this by powering on the device and running the following procedure:
- Change the admin password and confirm that it is correct
- By accepting the End User License Agreement
- By selecting the appropriate language
- And selecting the time zone
- A Zoom Phone will be selected as the base profile
- Once you click on Yes to continue
- If you have not already signed in to the Zoom Phone Appliance after the phone reboots, follow the steps below to do so.
Converting a phone that was used with Microsoft Teams
The phone needs to be converted to a Zoom Phone Appliance if it is currently used with Microsoft Teams.
- Microsoft Teams’ phone configuration should be removed.
- Log into Zoom’s web interface.
- Click Device Management, then Device List, in the navigation menu to access the device list.
- You can add a Zoom Phone Appliance to your virtual phone system by clicking the ellipsis (…) button in the top-right corner.
- You can add a Zoom Phone Appliance by following the steps below.
- By going to Settings > Advanced > Administrator Settings > Reset to Defaults > Reset to Factory Defaults, you are able to perform the factory reset of your phone.
This will allow you to update the firmware of your device. It may take a few minutes to complete this process and you may need to restart your device. Before starting the update process, wait until your device has stopped rebooting. - When your device has been powered up, go to the startup menu and follow these steps:
- Set a new password for the administrator and confirm it
- After accepting the End User License Agreement
- In the language of your choice
- Please choose your time zone
- By selecting the Base Profile as Zoom Phone from the drop-down list
- List, and then clicking the Yes button
- In case the Zoom Phone Appliance has not yet been set up, sign in once the phone has rebooted.
Converting a phone already in use with Zoom Phone
Follow these steps if you are currently using and assigning the phone to a user or a common area phone and you would like to convert it to a Zoom Phone Appliance.
- Zoom’s web portal can be accessed by logging in.
- Select Phone System Management from the navigation menu and then select Phones & Devices to open the Phones & Devices window.
- In order to convert the phone, you will need to click on the display name and copy the MAC address as well as the IP address.
- Once it has been removed from Zoom Phone, click on Remove.
The phone service will be interrupted during the process. - Navigate to Device Management and then Device List under the navigation menu.
- You can add the Zoom Phone Appliance by clicking on the ellipse (…) in the top-right corner, then clicking on Add Zoom Phone Appliance.
- After you have clicked on Add Zoom Phone Appliance, you will be directed to the next page.
- In order to perform a factory reset of the phone, navigate to Settings > Advanced > Administrator Settings > Reset to Defaults > Reset to Factory Settings.
The firmware of the phone will be updated subsequently. Please allow 10 minutes for the update process to complete. Once the update process has completed and all reboots have ceased, you can continue. - Start your device and navigate to:
- Change your admin password and confirm it.
- Agree to the EULA.
- Language selection.
- Time zone selection.
- Click on “Zoom Phone” to select the language.
- Continue by clicking Yes.
- Follow the steps to sign in to the Zoom Phone Appliance if you haven’t already done so after the phone reboots.
Converting back to Zoom SIP mode
Using these steps, you can convert the phone back to SIP mode registered to Zoom Phone if it is currently in Zoom Phone Appliance mode.
- Zoom’s web portal can be accessed by logging in.
- Navigate to Device Management and click Device List to access the portal.
- To remove a phone from zoom, place the mobile phone you want to convert in the right column, click the ellipsis (…), then click Remove from Zoom.
Note: - It is important to note that removing the Zoom Phone Appliance from Device Management, does not force the user to log out, if the appliance is signed in by the user.
- Using the provisioning wizard, configure the phone to work with Zoom Phone.
- After starting the device, proceed as follows:
- Create a new administrative password and confirm it.
- Read and accept the EULA.
- Click on the language option.
- Choose your time zone.
- Zoom Phone is selected by default.
- Continue by clicking Yes.
A reboot will assign the phone to the new owner.
