Webex App | Supported calling options
There are several different calling options available in Webex App based on your organization’s requirements or that are most suitable for your individual needs. As a consequence, when you make a call from within the app, the way your call is received depends on the settings within your account.
In the Webex App, you are able to make calls from a number of different locations. The icon of a phone call or video call will appear at the top of any direct message, contact card, or search bar when you are sending a direct message, looking at a contact card, or entering a name, email address, or video address.
Your administrator may only allow you to make audio calls if you do not see the option to make a video call on the application.
Calls on Webex App
In order to make a call over Webex App, users have to have an account with a Webex App account (on desktop, mobile, or web) as well as a Webex App account to do so. Whatever the organization they are part of, or what type of calling service they are set up with, it does not matter if they are in the same organization.
In order to call or answer calls from someone with a Webex App account, you do not need to know their phone number; all you need to do is be connected to them in the app. During the call, you have the option to add guests to the call, share your whiteboard, and share your screen with other participants.
It may be necessary to let the vendor know about the last-minute logo change immediately after you have reviewed the final marketing plan that has been shared in a direct message with them, as an example.
Additionally, if you want to call a non-Webex App user who does not have a SIP address, you can manually enter the address in the search bar (for example, username@example.webex.com) in order to make a call.
Call phone numbers within your organization
You might be able to reach someone in your organization (a work or cell phone number) if your administrator sets up your account so that you can also answer their calls. Let your manager know about the success of your marketing plan right over Webex App by clicking their phone number and setting up a face-to-face meeting.
With this configuration, your organization can make use of a variety of calling features including desktop and mobile calls, depending on the call option that your organization chooses. To find out what calling service you have, go to Find out which calling service you have and you will be able to get all the information you need.
Call anyone with a phone number
Your organization can also make calls to anyone with a phone number or answer calls that are coming into your work number if you have a Unified CM or Webex Calling system in place. In order to make these types of calls, you will only need to dial a regular telephone number, just as if you were dialing from any other phone. Your Webex App allows you to conveniently book a table in a restaurant for the celebration lunch of your team right from the moment you need to make the reservation. Enter the phone number in the Calls section and you will be able to make the call.
If you don’t have Unified Communications Manager, WebEx Calling, or if the service provider is hosting your call, then you won’t see a dial pad on the screen.
